Nobody Likes a Meanie

Just two weeks ago, I wrote a blog about the voting down of Senator Hoeven’s amendment to the Transportation Bill, an amendment that would have overridden President Obama’s initial rule of denying the ENTIRE Keystone XL Pipeline. Last Thursday Obama stood in front of a bigillion pieces of pipe in Cushing OK pushing for quicker processes of the southern extension. But I’m not even going to touch on that. We have bigger fish to fry… or tofu if that’s more your style. We have a bully on our hands.

Last week something else happened. One of our own (one of my favorites), Sen Kirsten Gillibrand, a constant environmental advocate in the Senate, was verbally attacked by Representative Bob Turner. Turner came out and said that Gillibrand was “out of touch with mainstream America” because of her recent vote on the Transportation Bill. He also challenged her to flip her stance and follow his poor direction. Let’s show how out of touch with mainstream America Sen. Gillibrand is.

How-to’s on Letter to the Editors

Young people seldom utilize the power of Letters to the Editors but in fact, they are the most read pieces in the paper. Letters to the Editors give us the ability to voice our opinion in a strong, concise, and most certainly noticed manner. So let’s blow up some editor’s inboxes, get published to let the everyone know just exactly who we stand behind, Senator Gillibrand. And let’s do it fast to let Turner knows who needs to flip their position and say ‘no way’ to all sections of the pipeline.

Even better we get our word out faster that Turner’s the one out of touch. Staffers in congressional offices take tallies of comments left on elected officials Facebook walls and Twitter feeds. Just today I received an email from Gillibrand asking me to connect with her on Facebook. Let’s tell people what the millennial generations thinks of with some millennial swag. Let’s tell each individually what we think of them on both Facebook and Twitter.

“Like” Sen. Gillibrand & Rep. Turner

TWEET: @KirstenGillibrand thanks for voting for against the #KXL @USRepBobTurner time to #flopoff #noKXL

In order to keep the attention on young voters during the next few months while big decisions pertaining to energy are being made, both in New York and across the country, we must continue to be consistently advocating for a switch to a clean, green economy as our desired future. Each week we can compile a list of articles and give them rebuttal that needs to be heard.
